Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Softball team kicked off their 2014 season on Tuesday afternoon, and had a good beginning. The Owls scored eight runs and mercied their host in six innings, defeating Pasadena City College 8-0.

Citrus wasted little time in jumping on the Lancers. Freshman Erinn Jaramillo led the game off with a single to left field, followed by a single to right from sophomore Alyssa Lozano. After both base runners advanced on a wild pitch, sophomore Sara Moore drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to center field. Lozano would score moments later thanks to a PCC error.

In the second, the Owls kept it rolling. Jaramillo laced a two RBI double to right-center field, while Moore and freshman Miranda Gil followed that up with an RBI single to right and a RBI double to left. Moore and Gil came right back in the top of the fourth with back to back solo jacks that put the Owls up 8-0.

With the offense humming, sophomore Arianna Sanchez made quick work of the Lancer batters in the circle, going four innings, striking out four and giving up just one hit with no walk. Gil came in and cleaned up the game in the fifth, striking out two of the three batters she faced.

With the win, the Owls improve to 1-0 on the year. Citrus will get a big test on Thursday when they travel just down the street to take on nearby and State #9 Mt. San Antonio College. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
