Jim Eppard competed on the 1979 and 1980 Citrus College baseball teams that won the Mission Conference Championship in back-to-back seasons. Eppard earned Mission Conference Player of the Year and All-American honors in 1980 before transferring to the University of California, Berkeley, where he played one season as a first baseman/left fielder and batted .398 with 97 hits, 60 RBIs, 45 runs and 19 stolen bases. In 1982, Eppard was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 13th round of the MLB amateur draft and made his professional debut with the California Angels on September 8, 1987. He spent six years playing in both the major and minor leagues. Eppard was the Anaheim Angels hitting coach for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
